About Me

I am a Catholic, wife, mother, daughter, teacher, and citizen, among other things. God created me in His image. I am working out my salvation in fear and trembling, trying to live a life worthy of the calling to which I have been called. For those who are wondering, my real name is Liana. It rhymes with banana because I live in upstate New York and that's how we talk. :-)

My husband and I have been married for 6+ years. We welcomed Peter in July 2010 and Anne in December 2012. Preparing for Peter's birth prompted me to read about a hundred books and try to learn everything about childrearing before he arrived. I am still working on this goal. :-) I am a strong supporter of breastfeeding and child-led weaning, cloth diapering, baby-wearing, keeping baby boys intact and natural parenting techniques in general.

I am Roman Catholic and, as such, follow the teachings of the Church. Reading Love and Responsibility by John Paul II completely changed my view of contraception and helped me realize the gift of sexuality. I oppose artificial contraception and believe that Natural Family Planning (NFP) should be used to avoid children only in grave situations. I'm not claiming to be a perfect Catholic Mommy -- far from it! But I try to live and parent in such a way that people can see Christ through me. I occasionally write articles for workingtobeathell.org, a website founded by my friend Fr. Brian.

I like soccer, gymnastics, and writing mediocre poetry. I love to sing and bake yummy things. I love children and teach 6th grade Sunday School at my church, which gives me all kinds of fun stories! I am Irish and German and love to celebrate the best of both cultures.
